Matt Barnes of the Los Angeles Clippers has recounted a story of great National Basketball Association (NBA) player Allen Iverson who regularly spent as much as US $40,000 in a strip club in on night alone.

Iverson's financial troubles are no real mystery. He has not exactly been the pillar of financial stability and responsibility.

While some people would contend with Iverson's finances, interjecting a fact that Iverson will receive a trust fund from Reebok once he turns 55 years old, Barnes recounts a story that paints a clearer picture of why Iverson is where he is at.

Barnes, who played with Iverson in the 2005-06 season for the Philadelphia 76ers, told Chris Ballard of Sports Illustrated that he used to see "The Answer" spend as much as $30,000 to $40,000 at gentlemen's clubs.

Barnes recounted that Iverson was the first NBA player to show how hard professional basketball players spent their money. He said Iverson threw down money hard.

"He'd throw so much money, and this was when I was first in the league, that I used to take my foot and scoop the s--t under my chair and either re-throw it or put some in my pocket," he said.

Barnes was left dumbfounded at the amounts Iverson spent and asked him if he knew what could be done with that amount of money.

The amount is shocking, as most hard-working Americans are taking home $40,000 annually.

The surfacing spending habits of players like Iverson and Antoine Walker are a big factor as to why the NBA is placing financial literacy programs in place.

They have already enacted a program that teaches rookies in the NBA about financial literacy during the Rookie Transition Program.

The program seems to be working, as no more stories about players spending exorbitant amounts of money are coming to light.

Instead, players are now focusing on saving money, building their brands, and even their portfolios for their future.
