It weighed 55 pounds and took 20 months to make, not two years--those are just two facts that Chinese couturier Guo Pei shared with Fashoinista about Rihanna's show-stopping yellow dress during the Met Gala held in New York City on May 4.

Aside from the stunning yellow cape gown, the Beijing-based designer had two other pieces showcased in the event that carried the theme "China: Through the Looking Glass," which will surely garner more attention as photos of the yellow gown makes its rounds.

After photos of the dress went online, the Internet blew up. The dress became meme fodder in different social media sites, most of them mocking and making fun of the dress, comparing it to a familiar big yellow bird or the traditional protein-packed foodstuff.

Funny enough, the "Can't Remember to Forget You" hit-maker first saw the majestic gown on the Internet. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the multi-Grammy Award winner admitted that she found the dress online while researching on Chinese couture.

The dress was first showcased in a show back in 2010, and prior to the "FourFiveSeconds" singer, no one off the runway has ever wore it. In fact, both deisgner and RnB singer believed that the dress was made for someone with the confidence of a queen.

Despite some personal changes to the dress, the Chinese designer understood that the runway and the red carpet are two different environments, and she is happy that the singer interpreted her work in a distinctive manner, allowing the dress to transform.

Guo Pei is slated to release a cosmetic line with MAC. The designer has been making clothes for different Chinese celebrities for quite some time now. Though she is relatively unknown to the Western hemisphere, after the Met exihibt and the exposure of the "Magnificent Gold" dress, it would be impossible to not expect Guo Pei to become a household name.
