Want to Lose Weight Without Dieting? Go Grocery Shopping With A List!

A study on Pittsburg shoppers revealed that one secret trick to lose weight is to have a grocery list in hand while shopping. This leads to healthy food choices, which ultimately lead to weight loss. Having a grocery list in hand helps the shoppers to stick to what they really need, rather than get tempted about what products are displayed on the shelves.

Researchers from the RAND Health Corporation studied the shopping habits of more than 1,200 residents of Pittsburg. All the selected participants were in the over-weight category and some of them were obese as well. They also belonged to the African-American community.

These participants also belonged to the lower-socio economy group and more than 75 percent of the group made less than $20,000 per annum. Only 33 percent revealed that they are employed.

Researchers studied the food habits of the people and found that they typically belonged to the "food desert," which implies that they have very limited access to healthy food options. Thus it was a surprise to see that the people who made shopping lists were healthier than their counterparts, and also had lower Body Mass Index as well.

Grocery List Shoppers had lower BMI by almost one point compared to the rest of the group. Researchers revealed that for an average person with a height of around 5'5" this implies about five pounds of lesser weight, as stated by Fox CT.

Out of all the respondents, less than 33 percent revealed that they always went grocery shopping armed with a list. On the other hand, 17 percent said that they frequently use the aid of a list, though not always while 33 percent said that they seldom use a list, according to Health Central.
