NBA Trade Rumors: Spurs to give up Splitter, Diaw, or Mills for Blazer’s Aldridge

Looks like it is going to be a busy offseason for the San Antonio Spurs as the team tries to get back on track for the next season.

After their unsuccessful attempt to clinch back-to-back titles, the Spurs are now reportedly trying to trade Tiago Splitter, Boris Diaw, or Patty Mills to make cap room for Portland Trailblazers' All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge.

The feeling is said to be mutual between the Spurs and Aldridge as ESPN's Marc Stein wrote in one of his articles that the four-time All-Star, an impending free agent this summer, is feeling "underappreciated in Rip City" by the idea that teammate Damian Lillard is also getting a max contract next season.

Aldridge is reportedly tired of getting knocked out of the playoffs year after year and wants to play for a true contender. Apparently, if the Blazers will have two max players next season, then the team might again fall short in building a winning roster.

Stein went on to identify that Splitter is the potential piece for the Spurs to trade. It makes sense as Duncan can go back playing at center while Aldridge can occupy the power forward spot on the Spurs' starting five. Other than that, Splitter's remaining contract of $16.7 million over the next two years can really clear cap space to accommodate Aldridge.

Meanwhile, according to HNGN's Jordan Webb, Diaw and Mills are also possible candidates to be traded. In terms of contracts, Diaw is owed $21 million for the next three years, while Mills is due for $6.5 million throughout the next two. For the Spurs to secure Aldridge's services, they may have to trade more than one of their veteran bench players.

Other teams that are interested in Aldridge are the Lakers, Knicks, and Mavericks, writes Lakers Nation's Ryan Ward.
