Rematch Talks for Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao Ongoing?

It has only been two weeks after the historic mega fight between pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. and eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao, and their camps are already negotiating for a second bout, according to Richard Johnson of the New York Post's Page Six.

Mayweather beat Pacquiao via unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas earlier this month to become the unified WBA (super), WBC, and WBO welterweight champion and, more importantly, cement his position as the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world today.

Even when the highly-anticipated match left many fans disappointed because of the noticeable lack of exchanges, and Pacquiao currently recuperating from a surgery that fixed his torn right shoulder rotator cuff, all the parties involved in organizing the event expressed the desire to do the dance one more time.

Dubbed as "The Fight of the Century", Mayweather vs Pacquiao generated $600 million in total, as per the New York Post, which is considered as the richest in the history of the sport. No wonder everybody is happy and eager to work out a part two.

The fight obliterated the previous PPV record of 2.4 million buys set by Oscar Dela Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007 by racking up 4.4 million buys. It also surpassed the record $150 million PPV revenue set by 2013's Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Canelo Alvarez by earning $410 million in PPV buys. Lastly, it also broke the live gate income record of $20 million also set by the Mayweather vs Alvarez fight with $72 million in tickets.

Mayweather, who improved his record to 48-0, a win more to tie Rocky Marciano's record, initially welcomed a rematch, according to ESPN. But it has since been reported that he changed his mind because of Pacquiao's post-fight comments about his busted shoulder.

Mayweather called Pacquiao a "sore loser" and a "coward" for declaring in interviews after the fight that he suffered a shoulder injury weeks before and that he was not 100 percent during their tussle.

Meanwhile, the Filipino fighting congressman said that he wants a rematch after his shoulder heals, or else he would consider hanging up his gloves.

Pacquiao will be sidelined for at least six months to heal, another four months for rehab, and another three to train, before he can go back in the ring with Mayweather. By then, nobody knows for sure whether Mayweather has already retired or not.
