NBA Trade Rumors: Latest On Aldridge, Spurs

As the San Antonio Spurs reload for another title run next season, it is getting clearer and clearer that they want Portland Trailblazer's LaMarcus Aldridge to join them for the mission.

Aldridge, the undisputed Blazers' team leader until Damian Lillard came along, is reportedly unhappy at Portland, although the real reason is not yet clear.

A prevailing theory is that the All-Star power forward, who turns 30 this July, feels underappreciated in Portland, especially now that Lillard is expected to also get a max contract next season, according to Marc Stein of ESPN. It was also reported that he is fed up of losing in the playoffs and that he wants to win a ring ASAP.

Gregg Popovich and the Spurs believe that they can take care of that for him. However, things should all fall into place first before it happens.

First, the Spurs need to know whether its two great senior superstars, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili, are going to come back for one final push. As reported by Ken Berger of CBS Sports, the 39-year-old Duncan is expected to return for one more season, while the 37-year-old Argentinian could already hang up his sneakers.

After that, San Antonio would have to take care of their rising star, Kawhi Leonard, and give him his own max contract, which they can only complete on or after July 1.

Only then will the Spurs begin to aggressively recruit Aldridge. The idea of having Duncan and Leonard as his frontcourt mates seems be too good to pass up for the Texas native, as hinted by John Chick of The Score.
