‘Sam & Cat’s’ Jennette McCurdy Tells Reddit Fans She’s ‘Not a Role Model’

Jennette McCurdy opened up about not being a role model to fans.

The 22-year-old actress went to Reddit to address the recent cancellation of her Nickelodeon show, "Sam & Cat" and living up to a squeaky clean image.

Nickelodeon executives were reportedly forced to cancel the popular sitcom following rumors about its actress's not-so kid-friendly antics over the past months.

The controversy started in March after McCurdy's racy selfies, in which she can be seen wearing lingerie, surfaced online. Then, rumors started swirling that "Sam & Cat" was soon to come to an end because McCurdy had a falling out with her co-star, Ariana Grande.

The television network announced more than a week ago that "Sam & Cat" is cancelled, and now, McCurdy has taken to the Internet to address the situation.

"I am not a role model," McCurdy posted on Thursday. "I don't claim to be, I don't try to be, and I don't want to be. There was a time when I tried to live up to the aggrandizing title, that pedestal of a thing. Maybe it wasn't so much that I was trying to live up to it. Perhaps I thought I could and I thought I was supposed to, so I gave it my best shot."

The live action comedy "Sam & Cat," is a spinoff of the hit Nickelodeon shows, "Victorious" and "iCarly." McCurdy's show was ordered for 40 episodes in July 2013 after only four episodes. The show, however, has been in production hiatus since April.

During her Reddit session, the young actress was asked if she plans on staying with the popular children network for a possible acting project in the future.

"I left Nickelodeon recently because I needed to move forward with my life," McCurdy answered.

The actress also noted that she recently decided to keep out of her online accounts because she found herself "sick of social media at times."
