Boxing News: Adrien Broner to Fight Shawn Porter on June 20

Adrien "The Problem" Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) will face "Showtime" Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) in the main event of the June 20 card of Premier Boxing Champions at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Broner, one of the most controversial fighters today and a former world champion in three weight divisions, is coming off three straight unanimous decision victories over class B fighters after he suffered his first loss to Marcos Maidana in 2013.

An apprentice of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Broner believes that he will be the next greatest boxing superstar after his master retires, but many analysts of the sport think otherwise. The reason is because the 25-year-old seems to be struggling when faced with high-level opponents such as Maidana and Paulie Malignaggi.

In his fight against Maidana, the Cincinnati, Ohio native became too defensive against the unrelenting punches of the Argentinian.

Against Showtime, he will have the opportunity to dismiss his critics and show the world that he can be the next top dog of The Money Team but will be tested by another relentless puncher.

The 27-year-old Porter, who is also a Ohio native (Akron), is coming off a fifth round knockout victory over Ecuador's Erick Bone on the maiden Premier Boxing Champions card last March. Before that, he lost his IBF Welterweight title via majority decision to UK's Kell Brook in August 2014.

There are no belts on the line, but both fighters are former world champions that are eager to prove themselves as the next potential top stars of the sport.
