Gennady Golovkin Wins 20th Consecutive KO, Beats Willie Monroe Jr.

Up and coming fighter Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin delivered another "big drama show" as he scored the 20th consecutive knockout win of his career, flooring Willie Monroe Jr. in the 6th round of their scheduled 12 to retain his WBA (Super) and IBO Middleweight titles at the Forum in California.

Golovkin, or GGG for short, improved to 33-0 with 30 KOs, a statistic that makes him the most feared man in boxing today. Meanwhile, the Mongoose dropped to 19-2, with 6 KOs.

"I'm very happy with my performance, I thought it was another big drama show," Golovkin said afterwards, mentioning his famous catchphrase. "Willie's a very tough fighter, but I know I had him hurt."

Wearing purple and gold colored gloves, trunks, and shoes as a tribute to the former residents of the building, the Los Angeles Lakers, Golovkin dropped Monroe twice in Round 2. The first one was delivered by a killer left hook, while the second knockdown happened a few seconds later when GGG caught Monroe with a looping right.

Monroe, a southpaw from Rochester, New York, tried to fight back in rounds three to five, connecting on both right jabs and left straights, as Golovkin looked tired after his second round onslaught.

However, the Kazakh proved too much for Monroe in Round 6 as GGG dropped him for the third and last time in the fight with a barrage of combinations. Monroe was able to stand up right at the 10th count, but he said "I'm done," forcing referee Jack Reiss to end the fight.

Golovkin, who considers himself as an adopted son of Los Angeles, said after the fight that he wants "Canelo (Alvarez) and (Miguel) Cotto" next.
