NFL News & Rumors: Will Tebow Play for Philadelphia This Coming Season?

With Tim Tebow's recent signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, many fans are clamoring whether the 6-foot-3, 245-pound former Florida Gator will actually play for their team.

"It's looking more and more like a possibility," reports Tim McManus of the Philadelphia Magazine. McManus added that the recent changes in the NFL's PAT rules are perhaps the number one consideration why the Eagles signed up Tebow.

Just last week, the NFL approved rule changes to PAT conversions effective this year, as per Kevin Patra of the league's official website. The changes state that the field goal will now be snapped from the 15-yard line from the former 2-yard line, while two-point conversions will stay in the 2-yard line but defenses will now be allowed to score on fumbles.

This major change encourages more two-point conversion attempts after touch down, something that Tebow is well-known to excel as a running quarterback.

McManus argued that "the Eagles didn't draft a quarterback" so that makes Matt Barkley as Tebow's main competition as third string quarterback behind mainstays Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez. Between Barkley and Tebow, Philadelphia is so far leaning on the latter's two-point game, prompting McManus to say that "it looks like Tebow has a real shot."

Meanwhile, Philadelphia Inquirer's Bob Ford reported that Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is including the former Denver Broncos' miracle man in his plans for the season, saying that "Tebow is probably going to be on the roster when the Eagles open the regular season on Sept. 14 in Atlanta. Another thing he knows is that, if Tebow is on the roster, he won't be a mascot or a clipboard holder. He's going to dress and he's going to play."

Ford added that Tebow is "the perfect quarterback for a 2-yard conversion situation," and Kelly is well aware of that.

If you are an Eagles fan, there is indeed no reason why you shouldn't be excited for the city of Philadelphia this coming season.
