NBA Rumors Blog: Why Paul Pierce Would Improve Clippers Championship Bid?

Paul Pierce might be ready to return to go home for his final dance of his NBA career. According to David Aldridge of NBA TNT, the All-Star forward is reportedly considering a buy-out from his current contract with the Washington Wizards and join the Los Angeles Clippers next season.

Pierce, who averaged 14.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in 29 minutes per game this postseason (per NBA.com / Stats), signed a two-year, $11 million deal with the Wizards last summer in hope of backing up young stars Bradley Beal and John Wall in their title quest.

But with the Wizards not able to upend the top-seed Atlanta Hawks in their East semis series, the Clippers emerge as the top destination for Peirce incase he pursues his buy-out option.

"Many around the league expect Pierce to opt out and finish his career with the Los Angeles Clippers. Pierce would have the opportunity to reunite with Doc Rivers while also playing in his hometown," according to Real GM.

The Clippers, the victim of one of the greatest collapse in playoff history after blowing away a 3-1 lead to the Houston Rockets in their Western Conference semis series, have been looking for upgrades at the small forward spot for quite some time, even trying to trade Matt Barnes and Jamal Crawford for a solid swingman or wing player.

Pierce's relationship with former Celtics head coach Doc Rivers cooled a bit after the latter requested a trade out of Boston that led to the blockbuster deal between the C's and Nets, sending Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry to Brooklyn in exchange for multiple draft picks and other assets.

However, if there's some truth in Aldridge report, then it would be assumed that Pierce has a change of heart, ready to reunite with his former mentor and help the Clippers win their first ever championship in his final NBA year.

So why getting Pierce's service makes sense for Clippers?

Blowing the opportunity to take a step closer to the promise land is certainly devastating for Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and the entire Clippers organization, who are yearning for a better image in Los Angeles after living under the shadow of the fabled Lakers.

With DeAndre Jordan hitting the market this offseason, the Clipper will be hard-pressed to match any offer for their starting center, so much that they might compromise their ability to add talent this offseason.

Fortunately for them, acquiring a veteran guy like Pierce at a bargain price would mean they won't need to make a major revamp on their roster. For all the talents the Clips possess, the small forward position has been the weakest part of their vaunted starting lineup.

With Pierce providing stability and clutch shooting, the Clippers will significantly improve their chance of making all the way to the championship. Sometimes, it would only need a game-changing player for a team to finally realize its full potential, and there's no doubt 'the Truth' can be that guy.
