NBA News & Rumors: Miami Heat Gun For New Super-Team in 2016

Call it déjà vu of the highest order.

The Miami Heat is reportedly gunning to form a new "super team" next year by setting its sights on Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant when the four-time scoring champ becomes a free agent in 2016. The management is also plotting to re-sign Goran Dragic this summer and Hassan Whiteside next July when their current contracts expire.

Together with Chris Bosh, who is now in the second year of his five-year max contract of almost $119 million with Miami, and "Heat lifer" Dwayne Wade, the potential outcome of these transactions would give the team a Big Five instead of "only" a Big Three.

Heat boss Pat Riley is certainly keen to make all of this happen. Allegedly, the first step to getting his dream to come true would once more depend on the Heat's resident main man D-Wade.

As reported by Dan Le Batard of The Miami Herald, Riley wants Wade to opt into his current contract to give the Heat financial flexibility for the summer of 2016 and have a shot at former league MVP Durant. Wade is set to receive $16 million next season if he opts in, an amount that is much less than the maximum pay and is viewed by critics as much less than what a three-time champion superstar like Wade should be receiving.

So, Riley's plan is to convince Wade to sacrifice again financially and wait for a former MVP next year, just like what they did four years ago when they formed the first super team? Well, no. Right now, it's not as simple as it once was.

Apparently, Wade thinks that it is about time for him to earn himself a maximum salary, as per CBS Sports' James Herbert.

Really, no one could blame the man. Bosh enjoys a max salary. Former pal LeBron James enjoys it, too. Heck, Joe Johnson and Deron Williams get so much pleasure from it even playing half-heartedly. Not to mention Rudy Gay, who is also currently with a max salary even without playing at all. These are just some of the NBA's max contract players, and most of them would appear somewhat of less value than what Wade had been, and still is, for the Heat.

If Wade decides to (again) forego the money and opt in his contract, to (again) receive less than the max next year, he will become a free agent in the summer of 2016. This will give the Heat, which is supposedly his team, the opportunity to entice Durant to move from Oklahoma City into Miami, as reported by Fansided's Cody Williams.

And then perhaps he will have the opportunity (again) to win championships. Probably not two, not three, not four, etc. It can really be a case of déjà vu.

Now, who wants to convince D-Wade to opt in, raise your hand?
