There had been rumors swirling around the league that the Los Angeles Clippers are setting up a "contingency plan" in case the proposed DeAndre Jordan max deal went awry. And it is to swap him with the Dallas Mavericks' champion center and former NBA Defensive Player of the Year Tyson Chandler.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported that the second overall pick of the 2001 draft is okay about getting traded as long as it would be to a high-market team that is in championship contention.

And the best team that fits the bill are the Clippers.

MacMahon continued that the Clips would surely want to hold onto Jordan, but it is the latter who reportedly wants to test the waters of free agency. The 26-year-old center's recent inclusion in the All-NBA Third Team perhaps made him believe that he is now worthy of a maximum contract, and that poses some problems with L.A.'s cap.

Another reason why Jordan is perceived to jump ship is his allegedly ongoing rift with superstar point guard Chris Paul, which has since been refuted by several league sources. Still, the old adage that "when there is smoke, there is fire" comes to mind every time this issue was mentioned.

Bleacher Report's Sam Spiegelman indicated that "this scenario makes sense if and only if the Clippers cannot come to terms on a deal with Jordan," which by the way is the only team that could offer the alley-oop catching center the most money.

Spiegelman added that while Chandler is the more accomplished of the two, Jordan is obviously the better player at this stage of their careers.

With Dallas, Jordan can help Chandler Parsons and Dirk Nowitzki inside and could potentially be one of the most intimidating frontlines in the NBA ever, as per SB Nation's Tim Cato. He could also thrive with Rajon Rondo although the point guard is also rumored to get traded soon.

The Mavericks should benefit a lot with Jordan's interior presence and scoring if they give him the right point guard to play with.

Meanwhile, as for Chandler, being shipped to the Clippers may be the best thing that could happen to him at this point. His reunion with Paul should be welcomed as he played his best years with him in New Orleans.

The Clippers will not miss Jordan so much with Chandler around. They might even get better defensively, and even though the younger center is generally faster offensively, the familiarity of the old hand with Paul's play making might actually make things smoother for L.A.'s offense.

So who will benefit the most from this potential trade, the Clips or the Mavs? On the surface, the verdict is both.
