Multitalented singer, actress, and entertainer Demi Lovato has reportedly replaced Katy Perry in the upcoming cartoon feature "Get Smurfy." Lovato will give voice to the single Smurfette, according to Sony Pictures Animation.

The casting news from the studio was announced on Sunday, June 14, since it was Global Smurfs Day, according to UPI.

There was no explanation as to why the "Roar" hitmaker, who previously voiced Smurfette in the live action and animation-mixed films "The Smurfs" and "The Smurfs 2," was replaced.

However, there is no doubt that 22-year-old Lovato will now be playing the character, since she has already signed a contract to join the upcoming third installment of the franchise, reported Contactmusic.com.

"Get Smurfy" will tail the story of Smurfette and the other Smurfs in the Enchanted Forest. The film will focus on their search for the mythical Smurfs village. According to Variety, the movie will also answer other long-standing questions about the blue creatures, which include why Smurfette is the only girl among the 100 Smurfs and why they are colored blue.

A synopsis of the movie also indicated that the Smurfs will race with their arch nemesis, the evil wizard Gargamel, in the discovery of the fabled Smurfs village.

"The continued popularity of the Smurfs is unmistakeable, and this new outing will return them to the fully-animated world that launched them," "Get Smurfy" Director Kelly Asbury said in a statement.

In the upcoming full-feature animated film, Lovato will star alongside Mandy Patinkin and Rainn Wilson. Patinkin will give voice to Papa Smurf, while Wilson will voice Gargamel. The previous roles of Papa Smurf and evil wizard Gargamel were voiced by Hank Azaria and the late Jonathan Winters, respectively.

"Get Smurfy" is set for release on March 31, 2017, according to Just Jared.
