China is going a bit overboard in realizing an environmental goal that aims to mitigate climate change. Asia's Sleeping Giant is set to carry out certain measures to meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals, and the nation is planning on spending about $6.6 trillion for it.

NBC News has learned that China is laying out its plans in late June, alongside its plan of taking active part in the United Nations' climate negotiations. China's National Development and Reform Commission representative Xie Zhenhua admitted that the country's bold move is "quite ambitious" given that China is apparently the world's biggest emitter of greenhouse gases.

However, China is determined to help mitigate climate change by reconfiguring its coal-dependent energy mix and developing more beneficial and less harmful energy sources.

"We will need to carry out international cooperation and research and development to reduce the costs of relevant technologies and to innovate so that we can reach our objectives," Xie said.

China's announcement comes amid UN's call for all countries to cut down on their greenhouse gas emissions prior to the much-anticipated Paris talks in December, Bangkok Post reports.

It appears that China is very eager to impress the world with its desire of curbing climate change. The timing couldn't have been more favorable since China and the United States have established a friendly relationship.

In November last year, U.S. President Barack Obama personally witnessed how his China's counterpart, Xi Jinping, announced Asia's Sleeping Giant's move to limit its greenhouse gas emissions.

U.S. climate envoy Todd Stern has nothing but good words for the China-U.S. alliance in combating climate change, according to ECNS.

"Sometimes we agree, sometimes we argue, but we always move forward together," Stern said. "It's obvious to everyone cooperation between the United States and China on climate change is quite strong now."

Stern also noted that this cooperation will bear witness to how China and the U.S. will work hand-in-hand in overcoming climate change and all of its facets.

Additionally, Stern opined that the cooperation just shows how the United States and China are willing to work together to solve worldwide issues.
