The tennis world knows that Caroline Wozniacki has what it takes to win. It's not just her wicked two-handed backhand that can fire winners down the line. Her tenacity is also unmatched and it was well-displayed during the quarterfinals of the AEGON Eastbourne International as she edged Germany's Andrea Petkovic in straight sets.

The former champion lost her first three opening service games but immediately broke back to take the first set 7-5 in almost an hour of grueling tennis. The second set, however, was cakewalk for the Dane who easily cruised through with a 6-1 score for a place in the semifinals.

"I'm excited to play tomorrow, to get another semifinal here, and it's nice to have got a few more matches under my belt before Wimbledon," Wozniacki told ESPN.

Despite 23 titles under her belt, the world has yet to see the former no. 1 on the grand slam pedestal. Her best performances were at the US Open where she was runner-up twice. She has also reached the semifinals of the Australian but has yet to get past the 4th round of Wimbledon.

"I want to win a grand slam," she once told Self magazine, and that goal remains to this day with Wozniacki working hard daily to improve her physique. "Halfway through the year, I take a break from competition and work hard on my fitness and then I'm fit for the rest of the year," she said, explaining her fitness regimen. "You can go to the gym during tournaments but it depends if you have matches, how tough it's been, if you have days off or not. Sometimes it's just balance work, sometimes it's core exercises or back work, sometimes it's a longer session, but it depends on how you feel."

Wozniacki's next opponent is Belinda Bencic, the Swiss teenager who demolished Johanna Konta in three sets. The British wildcard who recently defeated two top 20 players took hold of the first set but it wasn't long until Bencic, under the tutelage of former no. 1 Martina Hingis, raised her level and dominated the match with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory.

Former Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska also reached the semis by defeating Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova in straight sets. She will next face the American Sloane Stephens who entered the semifinals with a walkover after Russia's Daria Gavrilova pulled out of the tournament with a stomach injury.
