The Wimbledon fortnight has yet to begin but world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is already grabbing the headlines after allegations of getting illegal coaching during match play.

During a press conference, the defending Wimbledon champion was questioned about the claims made by his coach Boris Becker on BBC radio that a certain communication is made between player and coach in between points. When the word cheating was raised, Djokovic was quick to defend their interaction.

"I don't think that's how you can call it," Djokovic said as reported by CNN. "I mean, there are special ways of, I would say, communication. The way you look at each other, the way you 'feel' your box, and box 'feels' what you're going through on the court. I think that's something that just gives you that reassurance, gives you that confidence."

The 28-year-old emphasized that on-court interaction is something that can be spotted easily as it happens naturally during a professional match but it doesn't necessarily pertain to cheating.

"There are times when, you know, the team of the player communicates with the player when he gets to go and take the towel in the corner, which is closer to the box, or, you know, different ways," he added. "I think it's all fine as long as it's not regular. I think it just depends."

Previously, Djokovic was fined in two grand slams after being suspected of engaging in on-court coaching. Former world no. 1 Rafael Nadal was also hit with the same controversy when reigning French Open Champion Stan Wawrinka pointed out that his coach Toni Nadal gave signals before every point during the 2013 World Tour Finals.

On Monday, Djokovic will open center court with a match against Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber which he predicts to be a very tough first round game according to the LA Times. Despite lack of tournament play since the French Open finals, the Serb believes that the needed break was necessary for a complete mental recovery after his exhausting run at Roland Garros.

Djokovic's game will be followed by a women's singles match-up between 4th seed Maria Sharapova and Australia's Johanna Konta. Court play will end with Wawrinka facing Portugal's Joao Sousa.
