NFL News & Rumors: Eagles' Chip Kelly Is Considered The One Man To Fix Sam Bradford

The Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback saga appears to be going on until the beginning of the NFL regular season in September as presumed starter Sam Bradford is reportedly slow in the healing process of his re-torn left ACL.

With Mark Sanchez as primary backup, and middling QBs Tim Tebow and Matt Barkley fighting for the third-string spot, Eagles' head coach Chip Kelly is said to be in danger of starting the season with less than the best at the most important position on the field.

NJ Advance Media's Mark Eckel reported that an unnamed NFL executive commented that he is "still confused" about why Kelly traded Nick Foles for Bradford even though the first overall pick of the 2010 draft had been injury-riddled the past couple of seasons and have not really performed up to his billing throughout his career.

The anonymous exec added that even when Bradford was healthy, he was still deemed as "only" an average quarterback. But then he clarified that only Kelly had the capacity to make the former Oklahoma standout "a success."

The 27-year-old Bradford had not been able to show his true potential after five years in the league. With the St. Louis Rams, he was available for only 49 of 80 games, missing the last half of 2013 and the whole of 2014 because of two consecutive torn ACLs on the same knee, via NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. His win-loss record is also far from impressive at 18-30-1.

There must be something that Kelly saw in Bradford which prompted him to give away Foles and a second-round pick to the Rams just to get him, only that he alone knows what it is.

Sanchez is a reliable backup and has plenty of experience as a starter last year for Kelly after Foles went down with a collarbone injury. The seven-year veteran had a decent 4-4 record as starting signal caller last season, although it included losing his last three games. His main weakness, however, is being error-prone and being somewhat inconsistent during pressure situations.

The exec noted that Sanchez had "higher highs in his career" as compared to Bradford and that should comfort Kelly in some way, according to the NFL's official website.
