Gennady Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler, told ESPN's Dan Rafael in an interview that his client "would be more than happy" to fight the current WBA (Super) and Lineal super middleweight champion Andre Ward this fall but only at a catchweight of 164 pounds and a 50-50 split of the purse.

Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) is the reigning WBA and IBO middleweight title holder and to meet the naturally bigger Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) in the middle of their respective weight classes at 164 makes so much sense for the bout.

Rafael's report indicated that GGG had become the bigger draw as of the moment as fans are clamoring for the Kazakh brawler to finally fight someone in the elite level.

But big names such as Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto, and Saul Alvarez seem to be avoiding a clash with Golovkin saying that the risk would be too much for a paltry earning as the 33-year-old has not proven himself yet as a pay-per-view star.

Ward could provide the long-awaited challenge and opportunity for Golovkin, but Loeffler said that the fight can only happen if their terms are met. The 68-year-old promoter also added that the American may need a tune up or two to prepare himself for the hard-punching Soviet dynamo.

Ward just came back from a two-year layoff following issues with his former promoter, the late Dan Goossen. He is now under Roc Nations, a promotional sports outfit owned by celebrity rapper Jay-Z and is coming off an impressive TKO win over British Paul Smith late last month.

Boxing News 24 reported that the biggest hindrance to this potential fight would be Ward's willingness to go back down to 164 as his last fight was at 172. There were currently a lot of doubts whether he could stay at 168, so to go four pounds lower than that might be too much to ask from the California native.

Although the match is a promising blockbuster and would probably be the start of Golovkin's rise to stardom if he could win, there had been no reports of real interest from Ward's camp to try and make the fight happen this final quarter of the year, as per Fight Saga.
