The former light heavyweight and middleweight champion experienced the "most comprehensive loss of his career" during his most recent fight last year in the hands of Russian Sergey Kovalev, who is now the reigning unified WBA, WBO, and IBF light heavyweight champion of the world.

Many have assumed that Hopkins was going to retire after such a frightful beating, but he came back announcing that he wanted to get into the ring one more time against a fighter who is noticeably younger and a favorite, a champion from a lower division, one who is currently dominating, and one who will be willing to lock horns with him at a catch weight.

All descriptions point to the beast in the middleweight division: Gennady Golovkin.

A lot of boxing analysts were saying that the fight would be too risky not only for Hopkins' career but also for his life. Fight Saga said that Hopkins does not need to fight GGG at this point of his career to prove anything.

He is 50 years old, 26 of those spent fighting the best that the sport has to offer, and he is clearly over the hill when it comes to his athleticism and physical strength as demonstrated by the Kovalev bout.

Meanwhile, Golovkin had just entered his prime and is hungry to knock out a big name boxer to officially announce him as an elite fighter and crowd-drawer. A match with the deteriorating Hopkins, and convincingly destroying him in the ring, would be the perfect opportunity the 33-year-old Kazakh is waiting for.

Hopkins said in an interview with Boxing Scene that he is "very willing to entertain the idea" of exchanging punches with Golovkin.

"The only guy out there that nobody wants to fight, that I see, between 160 and 168 - is Triple G," he said. "It has to be weight situation on both sides, but it's good to see a middleweight guy like Triple G dominating like I was dominating back then."

Hopkins then added that if he would pick out a final opponent, where he had to be on his "A-game", it would be GGG.
