With only less than 24 hours to go before the league deadline for franchise tagged players to secure a long-term contract fades, there is still no word of any positive negotiations between Demaryius Thomas and the Denver Broncos.

NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk reported on Monday that a source said it is "not likely" that both parties will arrive at an agreement before the start of the one-year ban of contract negotiations on July 15.

This standoff means that Thomas' only options would be to sign the one-year franchise tender worth $12.8 million to play for the Broncos or not play at all and sit out the entire season without pay.

Denver could make the choice easier for the 27-year-old wide receiver by increasing the amount of the tender or assuring him that the team would never use the franchise tag on him again.

Meanwhile, 9News recently reported Thomas' camp and the Broncos have exchanged contract proposals. The former Georgia Tech standout is reportedly seeking a long-term deal that is bigger than the $16.2 million a year salary of highest-paid NFL wideout Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions.

It was reported that Denver was intending to offer the 6-foot-3, 229-pound three-time Pro Bowler a salary of only a little more than $13 million annually.

There were a lot of reasons cited why the Broncos management are not too eager to give Thomas the contract that he wants, such as CBA issues, abundance of top wide receivers in the league, the presence of Peyton Manning as his quarterback, and the impending free agency of their other star pass rusher Von Miller next year.

It should also be noted that past Super Bowl champions did not have wideouts that received huge salaries after the team had won.

While head coach Gary Kubiak believes that Thomas is a fundamental part of the Broncos' rotation and he is looking to make the most out of Manning's twilight years with the wide receiver around, it is still unclear whether the management would give in to Thomas' demands, according to the NFL's official website.

Thomas garnered 297 catches, 4,483 yards, and 35 touchdowns during his last three seasons in Denver, numbers that are slightly better than that of Johnson.
