The contract talks of Cowboys' Dez Bryant and Broncos' Demaryius Thomas are still on a standstill with only days away from the July 15 deadline set by the league for franchise-tagged players to get long-term deals from their mother teams.

With the delay, the NFL Players Association are investigating the possibility that both teams have colluded over the unresolved contract negotiations of their wide receivers.

The Dallas Morning News reported that the union "believes Denver and Dallas had contact" with regards to the situations of both Bryant and Thomas even if the league's CBA disallows such actions. If such charge is confirmed, then the NFLPA will file a formal claim against the two teams.

According to section 1 of the CBA, "No Club, its employees or agents shall enter into any agreement, express or implied, with the NFL or any other Club, its employees or agents to restrict or limit individual Club decision-making as follows: (i) whether to negotiate or not to negotiate with any player."

The practice is outlawed by the players' union as it would put NFL stars at a disadvantage when bargaining for contracts, as per Yahoo Sports.

For example, if Team A offered Player A around $20 million for ten years and he accepts it, then it is possible that Player B would seek a similar contract with Team B although he might not be valued that much by the franchise.

By colluding, Teams A and B can agree on an estimated figure to try and keep one or both teams from paying more than what they would have wanted.

Meanwhile, Star-Telegram indicated that the Cowboys are not bothered by the NFLPA's collusion claims. One source from the team said that there is "nothing to it", referring to recent speculations.

Bryant and Thomas have not signed their respective $12.8 million tenders and no one had shown any indications that they are intending to do so.

The Cowboys veteran had even considered the idea of sitting out regular season games to force his team to come up with a long-term deal but to no avail.

If no agreements are achieved on or before July 15, then both wideouts have the choice of either playing the upcoming season in their respective franchise tenders or not play and earn anything at all according to league rules.
