Reigning pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. allegedly announced his opponent for his supposed to be final fight before retirement on September 12th, and the name proclaimed is something of a downer. It was that of two-time welterweight champion Andre Berto's, as per Sports Illustrated.

While many boxing pundits believe that the fight would be anti-climactic of the unbeaten American's illustrious career, there were also a lot of speculations that if it pushes through then it highly likely that the match will not be the last time fans would see Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) step in the ring.

After convincingly beating Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao in what was considered the biggest fight of his career but turned out to be a lackluster "Fight of the Century" last May, fans feel that it would be more than a yawn to watch this potential non-event with Berto (30-3, 23 KOs).

The Sweet Science reported that the contest will be televised on CBS for free instead of the usual pay-per-view event that Money is accustomed of. The move is reportedly going to be marketed as a "give back" to worldwide boxing fans who were left disappointed after paying around $100 to see Mayweather and Pacquiao's uninspired showing.

This indicates that maybe Mayweather is really not counting on a large PPV number in this bout with Berto, and so by making the fight free for the public to watch, he will not risk his brand and reputation of a being a top PPV draw.

Floyd blamed Pacquiao for their humdrum of a fight saying that he did not bring his A-game in the ring and mocked the eight-division world champion even more after the Pac-Man revealed a right shoulder injury afterward.

Meanwhile, British sensation Amir Khan told reporters that he heard about Mayweather's pick of Berto and said "good luck" to the Beast in a social media post, according to Boxing News 24.

Khan also said that Mayweather is becoming "bad for boxing" after deciding to finish his career on a low note. The Briton stressed that Money should give the fans the fights that they want to see because they are the reason why the sport is thriving in the first place.
