The San Antonio Spurs announced on Friday that they officially signed Serbian center Boban Morjanovic, a 7-foot-3, 271-pound behemoth who could turn out to be the team's antidote to Los Angeles Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan, according to Real GM.

The Spurs continued to bolster their front-court depth this offseason after landing prized free-agent LaMarcus Aldridge and veteran banger David West by bringing another talented big man across the Atlantic.

Morjanovic, three-time Serbian Super League MVP winner, played in 19 Serbian League games for Crvena Zvezda, averaging 13.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 19.6 minutes per contest.

He's coming off a dominant Euroleague campaign for Crvena Zvezda, as he put up 16.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 27.3 minutes per game to earn All-Euro League first team selection.

The 26-year old Morjanovic is expected to backup Tim Duncan, who is set to shift to center position following the trade that sent Tiago Splitter to the Atlanta Hawks and the arrival of Aldridge.

Morjanovic is a typical Greg Popovich's Euro recruit who possesses a great feel for the game and solid basketball fundamentals. Despite his size, the Serbian giant uses his mobility and good hands to score most of his points off pick-and-roll plays. He also packed his offensive game with decent post-up games and mid-range jumpers, giving the Spurs another option down low.

But other than his offensive skills-set, Morjanovic's length and defensive upside was the biggest reasons behind the Spurs' decision to sign him. With a 7-foot-8 wingspan via Draft Express, Morjanovic will be an imposing force in the middle for the Spurs next season.

Many NBA pundits even believed Morjanovic will be the Spurs' answer to athletic big men in the Western Conference such as Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan, who gave them a myriad of problems in their first-round series loss to the Clippers last season.

Jordan averaged 12.6 points and 13.3 rebounds in 35 minutes per game (ESPN Stats) during the Clippers' seven-game series with the Spurs. Having Morjanovic on the block to guard Jordan would give the Spurs the luxury to match or even offset the athleticism of the Clips big man without reverting back to their Hack-a-Shaq tactics.
