The Portland Trailblazers are open to helping the Cleveland Cavaliers unload Brendan Haywood's contract if they add a future draft pick to the deal, according to Bleacher Report.

The 35-year-old center is already on his twilight years and nothing is expected from him on the court anymore, but his non-guaranteed $10.5 million contract is what makes him interesting when it comes to trade value.

Any team that acquires Haywood will be able to waive his humongous salary and take it off their cap all at the same time like nothing has happened. Teams that needed to open up cap space or wanted to lessen their luxury tax hit will benefit from trading for the former North Carolina Tar Heel.

However, the deadline for waiving Haywood is on August 2, which is fast approaching. After that day, his salary becomes guaranteed even if he does not play a single minute on the court. If there are no takers, the Cavs are likely to waive him on or a few hours before that set deadline.

Recently, the Blazers have contacted Cavs management that they are willing to trade for Haywood on the terms that they include a future pick with him. Since Cleveland is in dire need of decreasing their luxury tax after giving max contracts to LeBron James and Kevin Love, Portland has some leverage on their offer.

Contract negotiations between the Cavs and three of their championship pieces - Tristan Thompson, J.R. Smith, and Matthew Dellavedova - are still on hold because of the team's cap problems.

SB Nation reported that in exchange, Cleveland would "get a trade exception" that they could utilize within next season if ever they want to sign someone. This scenario is what requires the Cavs to include a draft pick as compensation for Portland's troubles.

The closest possible pick that the reigning Eastern Conference champions can give is an unprotected second-rounder in 2019. There were still no reports if the Blazers would agree with it.

Inquisitr noted that since the Cavs are from a different conference, Portland is not worried about lending a hand to Dan Gilbert's team for the right price. The article even said that a 2020 second round pick would still be okay as the Blazers would virtually get it for nothing.
