The Sacramento Kings have cancelled the one-year, $1.55 million deal with Luc Mbah a Moute after the seven-year veteran failed the team's physical check-up, as per ESPN. The reason for the unsuccessful physical was not disclosed.

Head coach George Karl reportedly intended to utilize the 28-year-old Cameroonian as the main backup of All-Star Rudy Gay at the no. 3 spot and also the team's primary wing defender.

The 6-foot-8, 230-pound former UCLA standout is known for his tenacious defense on established league scorers, such as Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Paul Pierce, throughout his career, especially during his five-season stint with the Milwaukee Bucks from 2008 to 2013.

He was actually first acquired by Sacramento in 2013, playing for only nine games, then jumped around to Minnesota and Philadelphia in the next two seasons.

Eventually, Mbah a Moute signed a one-year contract with the Kings last week, but two days later he failed his physical exam which led to the cancellation of the agreement.

With that, Mbah a Moute became a free agent once again and is currently looking for a new team that would sign him. The Kings are reportedly also searching for an alternative to fill his spot in their rotation.

Sacramento had a busy offseason this year, led by newly-hired team vice president Vlade Divac, acquiring champion point guard Rajon Rondo as well as reliable role players such as Omri Casspi, Marco Belinelli, and Kosta Koufos to form a solid bench, as per Sports Illustrated.

Mbah a Moute would have been the final piece of Karl's puzzle to enter the playoffs in the tough Western Conference this coming season, but the Kings would have to wait a little bit more to find that perfect defensive fit.

Fansided noted that analysts saw the Yaoundé native as the "refined and proven" defensive frontcourt complement to DeMarcus Cousins and rookie Willie Cauley-Stein. He could also slide to the no. 4 spot if Gay is in and Cauley-Stein is on the bench to create a faster lineup, something that Karl is fond of.

The Kings are currently looking at free agent forward Caron Butler as a possible replacement for Mbah a Moute, but the 35-year-old, 14-year veteran is more of an offensive player and had been injury-prone the past couple of years.
