Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak have recently intimated that the team needs a center to compensate for their lack of ceiling and a veteran point guard to provide backup minutes and guidance for their young spitfire duo of Jordan Clarkson and D'Angelo Russell, according to Basketball Insiders.

Kupchak may have suddenly realized that there is only one full NBA season of experience between Clarkson and Russell and so both playmakers would need direction not only on the court but more importantly off it as well. As always, the expectations by the fans and media are high for the Lakers' youthful backcourt and the management might have recognized the "extra care" that the two players need.

While Kobe Bryant could provide the leadership that they call for in the locker room and during games, what the tandem needs most is a closer approach, one that would support them to adjust to the Hollywood lifestyle.

Sports World Report noted that some veteran floor generals who have not yet signed with a team are Andre Miller, Norris Cole, and Jason Terry.

Restricted free agent Norris Cole is reportedly staying with the New Orleans despite the lure of Philadelphia while Jason Terry is also intending to stay with the Rockets after the acquisition of Ty Lawson from Denver.

This leaves Miller, who last played for the Sacramento Kings, as the Lakers' potential target.

There are no indications that the 16-year vet will be re-signed by the Kings as George Karl now has Rajon Rondo and Darren Collison at his disposal. Sophomore point guard David Stockton, who is NBA legend John Stockton's son, is the team's newest addition and Karl appears to be sold with the former Gonzaga standout as his third-stringer at the no. 1 spot.

The 39-year-old Miller is left hanging around with no takers and the Lakers may take the opportunity to snag the former NBA assists leader.

Los Angeles was quite close to trading for Lawson, but the former Denver team leader ultimately chose to join James Harden and Dwight Howard in Houston, as per Lakers Nation.

Other notable point guards that still available in free agency as of the moment are Pablo Prigioni, Jimmer Fredette, Luke Ridnour, and the Cavs' defensive dynamo Matthew Dellavedova.
