Despite her delicate pregnancy and wearisome confinement, Taiwanese singer-actress Vivian Hsu never skips an opportunity to feel positive about her situation. To fight boredom and make better use of her time, the 40-year-old Hsu decided to turn her hospital room into a classroom.

The soon-to-be-mother took the opportunity to improve her skills in English while awaiting the birth of her first baby. According to her Instagram post, most of the nurses attending to her speak in English and use medical terms that she could not understand. With the assistance of her cousin, Hsu became determined to be better in the language.

One of her learning methods include asking her cousin to write words on paper and "forcing" herself to remember a word on the third time she encounters it. She would share her progress with fans through the photo-sharing social media site.

Early in July, Hsu went through a phase of getting frustrated at her situation. Hsu shared through Instagram how she felt helpless lying day in and day out on her hospital bed and unable to personally look after her hygiene. Along with mood swings and injection bruises, Hsu admitted to feeling hate for herself.

"All this makes me lose my confidence. I hate seeing myself like this."

Unfit to leave her bed, Hsu relies mostly on her cousin Fion's care. According to Hsu, Fion never complained nor told her that she is already tired. In an heartwarming post, Hsu lauded and thanked her cousin for the unwavering patience.

"To my extremely kind, honest, brave, and funny cousin. . . Every time I see you sleeping next to me cutely with your mouth open, I am so grateful," Hsu affectionately remarked.

In June, Hsu was advised to stay in the hospital until she gives birth because of cervical incompetence. With her cervix dilating prematurely, she could risk having a miscarriage. Hsu underwent corrective surgery, however, this resulted in stress on her uterus. Upon her doctor's instruction, the actress had to undergo bed rest throughout her pregnancy. She was then on her fifth month.

Still brimming with positive energy, Hsu wrote a message for her future baby saying that she is doing her best to support the infant's growth and that she knows her baby as "working hard" to live as well.
