Mexican-born Hollywood star Salma Hayek finally spoke about the racist comments against Mexicans that presidential candidate and "The Apprentice" host Donald Trump made during a campaign last month.

"It's a mistake to respond because he will use this to promote himself. The Mexican community may be upset that I wasn't saying something . . . but I refuse to utter his name and allow him to use me for self-promotion," Hayek told the Daily News.

The Mexican community in the United States had earlier expected Hayek, known to fight against discrimination, to make a public comment about it. But now they understood that the star thought Trump would use it to promote himself.

"We have not, as Americans, grasped the level, the size, of the problem of discrimination in this country," she said. "We have been living a lie pretending we're a country that no longer discriminates," she added.

If anything good came out of Trump's racial remarks, Hayek said it brought attention to issues of racial discrimination, "At least he brought a light to a real problem," she told E! News in an interview.

"The Apprentice" star made what critics say were "derogatory" statement against Mexicans during one of his campaign speeches. Trump referred to them as "rapists" and blamed them for crimes and drugs in the United States.

"Some I assume are good people, but I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting," Trump was quoted as saying during his speech.

Now, several weeks after the presidential front runner made those statements, Hayek spoke up. She added in her interview with the Daily News, "I will say this: America is not a beauty pageant. America is not a reality show. The reality of America and the world is tougher."

Meanwhile, the actress was spotted with her 7-year-old daughter Valentina attending the premiere of her new animated movie "The Prophet", People reported.

"It's actually a grandmother-mother-daughter date night," she told the news site as Hayek's mother was also at the event.
