NBA Trade Rumors: Cavs, Knicks Open To A Kevin Love-Carmelo Anthony Swap?

There is a brewing trade that is being discussed right now and it involves a mega-swap between the New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony and the Cleveland Cavaliers' Kevin Love.

Knicks and Cavs fans should hold their reactions just yet as the trade is actually a fictional one instigated by Bleacher Report's Team Stream Now. The article presented a video discussing an inexistent but possible trade between the two superstar forwards.

The premise of the deal is the current inkling of NBA teams to have combo forwards, also known as stretch fours, as main offensive weapons as they can be "a nightmare to defend".

With that in mind, it is really not surprising if an Anthony-Love trade would happen as they are probably two of the best when it comes to the abovementioned position (if we consider LeBron James strictly as a small forward only).

The Knicks are certainly interested in Love as HNGN reported in the past that they had targeted the 2011 Most Improved Player this summer, although Anthony was not the included in the offer.

However, NBA video analyst Ric Bucher said that the Knicks may say "no" if the deal included Anthony for a couple of reasons.

For one, he suggested Carmelo is a better creator than Love in many aspects and thus is a better fit in Phil Jackson's triangle offense. While Love can also be effective in the triangle, the system relies on someone who can create on his own to bail the team out in case the offense does not present any opportunities.

This is why Jackson's system thrived with two of the greatest playmakers and offensive forces known in the history of basketball: Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Love needs someone to set him up while Anthony can score by himself when needed.

The Cavaliers may also say "no" to it if they consider Anthony's age and his competitiveness of not wanting to play second fiddle for a team. If Carmelo comes to Cleveland, he would clearly be the second option behind LeBron.

Fox Sports suggested, though, that Anthony might like the idea as the eight-time All-Star had hinted that he does not want to be a part of a rebuilding team especially at this stage of his career.

Meanwhile, Love has the potential to become the alpha male of a winning team with the young Knicks squad. The three-time All-Star could go back to his old dominating ways in Minnesota, but this time he will have a more stable backup crew and a system that could propel his career to new heights.

It remains to be seen if this hypothetical trade would become a reality or not.
