The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly hopeful about the condition of their star running back Darren McFadden, who is currently struggling with a nagging hamstring injury that affected his performance all throughout the offseason.

NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk indicated that the Cowboys management and coaching staff are willing to wait for the 27-year-old veteran to recuperate completely from his injury before they allow him on the field even on practices.

So far, everything looked good and felt good for the incoming eight-year pro as he was reportedly okay when he tried to run and cut with trainers out in the field on Wednesday. It was also reported that he could go back to join the team in full contact practices as early as Saturday.

"It's one of those things where the trainers want to make sure I can put a couple of days back to back before they throw me back out there," McFadden told the Dallas Morning News reporter Brandon George. "I'm just looking forward to getting back out there on the field. No soreness or swelling the next day, so definitely a good sign for me."

McFadden admitted that he was getting frustrated about not getting a chance to get some reps with his new teammates because of his condition. He stressed that he really wanted to be out there, but he also recognize the need to be patient and let his legs fully heal before jumping in.

Fox Sports reported that owner Jerry Jones and his son, executive vice president and COO Stephen Jones, are "taking a conservative approach" when it comes to the playing status of their prized running back.

The younger Jones said in a radio interview that he and his father did not want to rush McFadden and that they want him to completely heal before allowing him to re-join his teammates.

"We've got to make sure when he hits the field, he's ready and there's not something nagging that keeps him from being the best that he can be," Stephen said.

The former Arkansas standout had a long history of injuries in his entire career, especially with regards to his legs and hamstring, which is why his new team is being extra cautious.

Dallas signed McFadden to a two-year, $5.85 million deal last March after he was released by the Oakland Raiders, the team he played for the first seven years of his career.
