The Los Angeles Lakers have signed undrafted Texas Longhorn forward Jonathan Holmes to a training camp deal that includes a "significant partial guarantee", according to RealGM.

The 24-year-old standout was part of the Boston Celtics' lineup during the recent summer league. He played eight games and averaged 10 points and five rebounds per contest. He also shot decently from the field with 48.1 percent from the two-point area and 46.4 percent from the outside.

The 6-9, 240-pound long-armed wingman, who played at Texas for four years averaging 9.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, is a potential asset for a Los Angeles team badly in need of youth, length, and athleticism at the wings and the defensive end.

Also, Holmes deep range can be of good use to improve the Lakers' three-point shooting clip of 34.4 percent last season, which was 18th in the league, if ever he gets to be included in the lineup come October.

Aside from those possible contributions, the Lakers could also use Holmes as a stretch four with his size and versatility. He is said to be an excellent post-up player with a shooting range that goes well beyond the three-point arc.

During the recent NBA Draft Combine, Holmes shot 17-of-25 from the NBA's three-point distance, second among participants, and had shown good shooting mechanics and fundamentals.

However, Lakers Nation indicated that while Holmes has all the promise of a good defensive specialist and outside marksman, making LA's final roster "is far from guaranteed", although the one spot the Lakers are insufficient this upcoming season is the small forward position.

Indeed, he would be "a nice steal" if ever head coach Byron Scott would decide to include him in his 15-man lineup this coming season.

So far, the Lakers have 12 out of 15 spots in their roster that are filled up and the management and coaching are reportedly still on the process of figuring out the final inclusions.

Some analysts had predicted Holmes to become the 24th overall pick of last June's draft, but he was left overlooked by all the NBA teams.

NBC Sports' Pro Basketball Talk suggested that after the Lakers' selected a golden second round pick in Jordan Clarkson last year, the team may have again found another of the same gem with Holmes this year.
