Indiana Pacers forward Paul George was reportedly discharged early in Team USA's three-day minicamp this week only after a meeting with USAB officials and was allowed not to participate in light drills and media sessions afterward.

Indianapolis Star reported that the short team dialogue and one-on-one with coach Mike Krzyzewski was "sufficient" for him to be considered in the final 12-man roster of Team USA that will compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Nope, George was not being given special treatment by USAB officials or he was already cut this early in the selection process. He was simply spared of seeing his fellow players enjoy themselves on the court while he can only watch on the sidelines and to avoid the almost certain interrogation by media present on the site.

It can also be seen as a salute to what George had to endure after his horrific accident in last year's intrasquad scrimmage at the Thomas and Mack Center. The camp was held a year and a few days after the 25-year-old literally broke his leg in half when he landed awkwardly into a basketball support stanchion following a block attempt on James Harden.

Bleacher Report noted that wing man's early exit did not mean he is less interested or less committed on joining the national team next year as well.

"Of course," George responded after being asked if he wants to join the squad that will take part in Rio next year. "I've had a dream of lifting that gold medal. That's definitely motivation."

The former Fresno State standout missed all but six of last season's games to heal and rehabilitate his leg. Almost four months after coming back from the compound fracture, he is reportedly ready to be back in his old form prior to the injury but the Pacers are still cautious about his full return.

Colangelo said that he sees the minicamp as a show of "recommitment" for past members of the pool as well as an expression of loyalty for the younger ones, as per ESPN.

George's appearance, while only brief, was reportedly a big encouragement for the Team USA director, telling him that there are still American players willing to make sacrifices for the benefit of the national team.
