The New York Knicks are reportedly the top team to possibly acquire Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard Jamal Crawford as the Clips seek out potential trade partners for the disgruntled two-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year awardee.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reported that the Knicks are currently leading the race for the 35-year-old's services. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat are also said to be interested in the 15-year veteran.

The Clippers have not yet disclosed what they want in exchange for the former Michigan standout to any of the aforementioned teams.

Crawford is entering the final year of his four-year, $21.4 million deal with Los Angeles, and while he was seeking a contract extension during the summer, the Clips were said to be unwilling to give it to him.

Instead, Rivers and company went through a barrage of signings this offseason, landing Paul Pierce, Josh Smith, Lance Stephenson, Wesley Johnson, Pablo Prigioni, and bringing back DeAndre Jordan into their mix, who almost moved to Dallas during the free agency period.

This left Crawford allegedly unhappy as he felt slighted by the organization with regards to his request for an extension. Up to now, it is clear that the Clips' management has no intention to give in to his demands and it seems that he is just seen as a potential trade chip to further boost the team's lineup going into the new season.

Fortunately, the Knicks want their former bench scorer back at the Big Apple.

Crawford played for New York from 2004 to 2008 before being traded to the Golden State Warriors for Al Harrington.

NJ Advance Media indicated that the Knicks are close to reaching an agreement with the Clips for the offensive-minded guard. His continuing "close ties" with Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan and New York Liberty president and part owner Isiah Thomas is said to be the reason why Crawford would be keen on returning to New York.

Meanwhile, Bleacher Report said that the Knicks would solve their bench scoring and overall team depth problems with the arrival of Crawford.

The 6-5, 200-pound Seattle native has a long wingspan that allows him to defend wing men pretty decently as well. With the Knicks, he could be the primary backup of Arron Afflalo and could also occupy the no. 3 spot if head coach Derek Fisher wants to play small ball.
