In the 17th season of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit", things will be rough and tough for Amanda Rollins as revealed in a post in Christian Today. Apart from the departure of Detective Amaro, Rollins will have to deal with her sister and mother who are coming to visit her without prior notice. According to producer Warren Leight, the unexpected arrival of Rollins' mother and sister will complicate things for her despite the fact that they only want to show her support. Leight, also the show's writer, added that her family's presence is actually not good for Rollins and that nothing good comes from her seeing them.

In the last episode of season 16 of "Law & Order SVU", Nick Amaro was shown to have left the unit after failing to get promoted to a coveted position. The disgruntled Amaro took his family west and left his partner Amanda Rollins all by herself. However, in a post found in VcPost, Leight says that Amaro is not yet out of the show and could be brought back anytime when the story requires his presence.

One speculated reason posted in the Christianpost for bringing back Rollins' mother and sister is the detective's pregnancy. Writer and producer Leight did not confirm this scenario, but admitted that the real reason shall be revealed at the end of the new season's pilot episode. Kelli Giddish who plays the character of Amanda Rollins in the "Law & Order SVU", is actually expecting a baby in real life. The departure of Nick Amaro signals major changes in the plot of the show. He was a big part of the group along with Benson and Rollins and it is clear that Season 17 will focus more on Amanda Rollins. "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" Season 17 will kick-off on Sept. 23 with a two-hour episode.
