Wanted Felon Arrested After Winning Police-Sponsored Doughnut Competition

As a man on the run for felony break-ins throughout North Carolina-based Camden County, Bradley Hardison was not one to pass up an indulgence--especially if it was free.

After successfully evading capture for nine months, Hardison, 24, may have believed he was too clever to be discovered by the authorities.

That is, until Hardison decided to become a participant in a competitive doughnut eating contest sponsored by the local police department in Elizabeth City. To make matters even more unsafe for Hardison, the contest had been a part of the Elizabeth City Police Department's National Night Out Against Crime event.

Knowing that the stakes were high, Hardison managed to devour a total of eight doughnuts in under two minutes and quickly defeated his other hungry competitors--namely, the participating police officers and firefighters. However, Hardison's moment of glory soon ended after he was named the sole champion of the contest.

While he may have been able to beat the police officers in their own game and not be picked up on their radar at the same time, Hardison's streak of luck only lasted until the following day, when he had finally been arrested.

How exactly did this champion manage to get arrested after all of his success?

The police officers had finally succeeded in bringing Hardison in for questioning down at the nearby police station for his possible connection to two local break-ins this past November. It was then during questioning, that the police officers knew they had their suspect right in front of them--though this time, they were sure to be the winners.

After graciously congratulating Hardison on his triumph in last night's contest, Lieutenant Max Robeson promptly arrested Hardison. Hardison is now facing criminal charges of breaking and entering and injury to real property.

However, that is not the only trouble Hardison is in. In the neighboring Pasquotank County, Hardison has been accused of stealing $5,000 in cash from Forbes Homes this past December.

While Hardison was not able to comment on his own arrest, he must have learned by now what many people learn in kindergarten: you can't have your cake and eat it, too.
