The U.S. Navy has released a video of the airstrikes President Obama ordered against ISIS.

The video depicts an F/A-18 Super Hornet dropping a 500 pound laser-guided bomb onto two ISIS vehicle targets, providing insight into U.S. troops activities and how much collateral damage is possible or may have happened.

Two jets were sent out on Aug. 8 from the Arabian Gulf on the USS George H. W. Bush. They flew over 600 miles to the targets near the Kurdish capital of Erbil in Iraq.

Rand Corporation's terrorism expert Seth Jones worries these airstrikes may encourage ISIS, rather than deter them.

"[The airstriles] could increase the likelihood that ISIS or somebody inspired by ISIS would strike [The United States]," Jones told Time.

The concern over ISIS backlash is not entirely unfounded. On Aug. 7, an ISIS told VICE Media they plan to raise the "flag of Allah" in the White House.

Counterterrorism officials believe ISIS is too embroiled in its fighting in Syria and Iraq, but worry they may put higher priority on targeting Americans overseas.

Former Deputy CIA Director Michael Morell told CBS News last June that a backlash to U.S. involvement is inevitable.

The airstrikes are the first concrete resistance the U.S. has used against ISIS. U.S. President Barack Obama justified the attacks and said that approximately 150 US military advisers are located in Erbil and need to be protected.

Besides deterring attacks, the airstrikes were meant to clear a safe path for humanitarian aid in the area.

ISIS used to be a part of Al Qaeda, but was viewed as too extremist even by Osama Bin laden. Bin Laden ordered all ties to be cut with the group for fear of appearing too extreme.
