Reports also said that 299 people aboard in 29 boats were intercepted on Monday by the rescue service and another 232 migrants were caught early Tuesday traveling in 23 boats.

Coast Guard officials said that the sub-Saharan migrants were taken to Tarifa, southern Port of Spain, to received medical aid from Spanish Red Cross.

The police were wearing plastic gloves and medical masks while they escorted the migrants. All are in good health condition, the officials added.

Spain's two coast guard boats and a helicopter patrolled in the sea all day to look for migrants.

Based on media reports, thousands of undocumented African migrants regularly cross the narrow strait that divides Spain from Morocco boarding on makeshift boats, rafts, and inflatable dinghies.

Authorities said that the Spanish rescuers already picked up another 68 African migrants over the weekend.

Some migrants attempt to travel by land or sea to reach Europe in search of a better living. Asylum seekers took advantage the fair weather and calm seas to take the trip going to the Spanish territory.

Recently, around 700 migrants scaled the six meter border fences and threw stones to Spanish police. People used makeshift wooden ladder to go over the barbed wire fences in attempt to enter Spain's northwest African enclave city of Melilla, authorities said.

Spain, aside from Italy, is one of the southern European countries facing a rising invasion of migrants.
