Top 5 Biggest Summer Movie Flops of 2015

Summer 2015 might have had the biggest box office hits led by "Jurrasic World," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and "Inside Out." But it also had the biggest flops headed by "Tomorrowland" and "Fantastic Four."

The Hollywood Reporter rounded up the top five flops of the summer and have provided the numbers to back it up.

1. "Tomorrowland" (Disney, May 22)
Budget: $190 million
Global gross: $208.4 million
Expected loss: $120 million-$150 million

What Went Wrong: Disney invested a lot on Brad Bird's original fantasy idea after coming off of the global hit "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol." However, the film's marketing was so weak and confusing. The poor reviews didn't help either. On the bright side, Disney earned $1.4 billion from "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and $703 billion from "Inside Out" (still showing overseas) so the loss from "Tomorrowland" is pretty much minimal if you'll look at it from that perspective.

2. "Fantastic Four" (Fox, Aug. 7)
Budget: $125 million
Global gross: $146.7 million
Expected loss: $80 million-$100 million

What Went Wrong: Everything. From its total deviation from canon to troubles in production and rumors of unprofessional behavior from director Josh Trank, it comes as no surprise that the film would flop in the box office. The movie got horrific and historic reviews, making it the lowest Marvel movie ever rated by Rotten Tomatoes at 9%.

3. Pixels (Sony, July 24)

Budget: $88 million-plus
Global gross: $186.4 million
Expected loss: $75 million-plus

What Went Wrong: Adam Sandler and friends from "Grown Ups 2" weren't able to pull this one off. The story revolving around 80's games was poorly written. It got smashed by Marvel's "Ant-Man" as the films overlapped in its domestic release. Critics say that it was indifferent, non-kid friendly, and audience-insulting at some point.

4. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Warner Bros., Aug. 14)

Budget: $75 million-plus
Global gross: $72.1 million
Expected loss: $80 million-plus

What Went Wrong: While Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer were terrific in the movie, it lacked the other factors that would draw the audience to watch this kind of film. Based on a European TV series, "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." has a niche market-too niche to breakeven. Warner Bros. had an awful summer with other flops adding more losses to the studio such as "Hot Pursuit," "Entourage," and "Magic Mike XXL".

5. Aloha (Sony/Fox, May 29)

Budget: $37 million-plus
Global gross: $26.2 million
Expected loss: $65 million

What Went Wrong: Director Cameron Crowe is known for "Jerry Maguire," "Say Anything," and "Almost Famous." Now he's also known for the big flop that is "Aloha." Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, and Rachel McAdams couldn't save the movie. The underwhelming trailer coupled by race-related controversy didn't help the film at all.

That rounds up the summer flops of 2015. Now it's time to look forward to the best Fall movies coming our way.
