Dallas waived linebacker Jasper Brinkley to make room for the 24-year-old Thibodaux, Louisiana native but had added a new linebacker for the practice team, Dakorey Johnson.

Head coach Jason Garrett is reportedly planning to utilize Mills as a backup for his starting tandem of Tyron Smith and tackle Doug Free, in case any of the two would be injured. This is to say that Garrett is hoping that he would never get to use Mills in any game.

The 6-foot-5, 316-pounder is a proven player at either left or right tackle and thus provides the Cowboys much-needed depth at the position.

Mills, who was the Bears' fifth round, 163rd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, was a consistent player for the Bears and have actually started all 29 of his career games with the squad ever since he got drafted.

He lost his starting job to Charles Leno this preseason, though, as he struggled with minor injuries all throughout the summer.

Despite the former Louisiana Tech standout's impeccable performance history with the Bears, head coach John Fox reportedly wants to revise his current roster for the new season, thus triggering the release of their prized tackle.

Yahoo Sports reported that right guard Kyle Long will now take the place of Mills at right tackle. Vladimir Ducasse is said to be taking his first crack at the starting right guard spot in their season opener against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Chicago also reportedly acquired second-year offensive lineman Patrick Omameh, who was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as insurance in the position. Omameh started all his 16 games for the Bucs at right guard last season.

Fox also released the team's veteran safety, Sherrod Martin, and signed safety Harold Jones-Quartey instead after he was cut by the Arizona Cardinals.

Mills was reportedly not surprised by what happened as Long had been starting at his former position in practice for the last several weeks.

Fox told reporters on Monday that the move had nothing to do with Mills' declining performance but that the coaching staff simply "liked other guys better" and that the decision "is not personal," as per the NFL's official website
