Denver Broncos' veteran Super Bowl MVP quarterback Peyton Manning is under scrutiny again this season with regards to his reportedly diminished arm strength.

While reports went out that the 39-year-old's arm is okay and ready to start the year, a lot of people around the league are wondering if he can sustain that for the rest of the season.

Based on game films distributed to NFL scouts and executives last January, they are thinking that Father Time may already have caught up on Manning and that he is no longer the once reliable passer that he is, according to the league's official website.

Manning's lackluster play in the recently concluded preseason games did not help in refuting the rumors as the 14-time Pro Bowler's perceived decline allegedly caused alarm to some former and current players around the league.

"When you watch some of these throws, you can't believe it could possibly be the same guy," said NFL analyst Brian Baldinger. "You just (wonder) is it the arm, is it the new offense, is he thinking too much, is that possible? Those plays are lay-ups for Peyton Manning."

NFL reporter Albert Breer reportedly conducted a survey to 28 of the league's top executives and scouts for them to name the best five quarterbacks this year and only two of them placed Manning higher than no. 4 while 19 did not include him at all.

Sporting News' Arthur Weinstein said that the 18-year pro's age and longevity are not the only factors causing the diminishing arm strength but also his "string of injuries" in the last couple of years.

However, if you look at Manning's stats last season - 66.2 percent passing accuracy for 4,727 yards, 39 touchdowns, and a QB rating of 101.5 percent for the year - you can tell that he is still effective and arguably still one of the best quarterbacks in the game.

Meanwhile, 247 Sports indicated that Manning's perceived decrease in arm strength and effectiveness are all "fallacy" according to the Broncos organization.

Speculations emerged this offseason that general manager John Elway is looking for a new quarterback to replace the aging Manning and because he could not find anyone suitable at the moment, they just settled for a $4 million pay cut on the seven-time First Team All-Pro player while the team is still on the lookout for his possible successor.
