Some reports are suggesting that Apple is aiming to manufacture an electric car, probably a plug-in model, by 2019. The Wall Street Journal published a report according to which the target launch date is expected to be 2019.

Apple is likely to partner with BMW to launch its electric car. Apple's CEO Tim Cook have been alleged to visit BMW's headquarters along with senior Apple executives, according to Reuters. BMW i3 is the perfect choice because it comes in eleectric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle combination.

There were earlier predictions about the tech giant Apple developing a self-driving car. According to the report on the Wall Street Journa, it will not be fully autonomous; however the driving features will be much better.

According to Extreme Tech, Apple is likely to partner with other automobile manufacturers to license chassis and suspension technologies. Apple is most likely to partner with BMW for its donor car BMW i3, since it's the exact size (157 inches) and also owing to the fact that Apple and BMW have partnered in the past. The i3 is also perfect because it comes in EV and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle combination.

It is anticipated that Apple will source the component electronics for the basics of self-driving from Harman, and then add its own interface. "We look at a number of things along the way, and we decide to really put our energies in a few of them." said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

The Apple's car project is code-named as "Titan". The Wall Street Journal report predicts that the company is likely to increase its current 600-person team to three times about 1,800 employees as it ramps up its for project "Titan."

Earlier reports have also made speculations about Apple poached some employees from Tesla automobile experts for hiring them to project Titan.

Apple has not confirmed the news, but the evidence has been mounting. Tech News World speculates that Apple CEO Tim Cook has deviated from entertainment or fashion devices to develop something meaningful for the world.
