A five-year-old boy in Chongqing, China has ratted out his own dad to the police after the youngster was not given the 1 yuan ($0.16) he was promised for snack money.

According to local media reports, Dazu district officers said the boy came to the station accompanied by another child - perhaps it was his lawyer. The boy complained to the police that, despite following through on his end of the bargain to be a good boy and not eat while watching TV, his father had stiffed him on his allowance.

The boy decided to take matters to the authorities based on the advice of his kindergarten teacher, who taught the class that they should find police officers whenever there is trouble.

Sympathizing with the child,  the police officers only gave the child the money he had been seeking, and then met with the child's parents. The father said he was ashamed for not sticking to his end of the deal, while the mother conceded that she was too stingy with the family finances.

However, this might not be the end of the child's financial concerns. Last month, the Chinese government dropped it's long-standing one-child policy, and is now allowing families to have up two to children. The policy had been introduced in 1978, and enacted in 1980 to hold back the population explosion, and limit the demands for water and other resources.

This could mean potential competition for snack money from his parents, should they decide to have another child.
