ESPN's Dan Rafael indicated that Roach is well-known for his habit of "looking ahead to his fighter's next fight" much like what he did in the heyday of his team-up with Manny Pacquiao. He seems to be doing it again with four-division world champion Cotto.

Although Rafael did not actually say that it is a bad habit, Roach must certainly have a high level of confidence in Cotto right now to be able to make such public statements.

Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) is set to face Canelo (45-1-1, 32 KOs) this weekend at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and the seven-time Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year winner is so certain that his ward will beat the Mexican brawler, who is ten years younger than Cotto, that he is talking about his potential next bout already.

"I would love for (Cotto) to win this fight by knockout, call out Mayweather and then end it," said the 55-year-old coach, referring to Cotto's recent admission that he could possibly retire next year.

Roach is so confident of their partnership that he believes Cotto would have knocked out Mayweather if he had been in his corner when the two legends met back in 2012, as per Boxing News Online.

"He always tells me 'If I had you in my corner when I fought him (Mayweather) I would have knocked him out.' He tells me that story all the time," Roach said.

Meanwhile, in response Roach's statement, Cotto has said that he does not know what the future may bring and that he is just "here to fight" and nothing more.

"If he (Mayweather) decided to come back, I'm here," Cotto said.
