With the unofficial NBA "trade season" opening on Dec. 15, the New York Knicks are reportedly eyeing Detroit Pistons playmaker Brandon Jennings as a potential solution to the team's current woes at the point guard position.

The New York Post indicated that the Knicks can explore possible trade talks when this year's trading period begins on Tuesday as the trade restriction for free agents signed during the offseason is lifted by the league.

Ten of New York's players are going to be eligible for trading and it is highly likely that Phil Jackson and his crew will join in the moving and dealing before the February trade deadline arrives.

One of the expected positions the Knicks will try to improve is their starting point guard spot, which is currently occupied by veteran Jose Calderon with rookie Jerian Grant as the primary backup.

Both players provide head coach Derek Fisher the best of the old and new, but the coach is still not sure who can he rely on during crucial stretches of games.

It seems that what the Knicks really need is someone in the middle, young enough to be athletically and offensively sound while also old enough to have some experience and savvy especially during crunch time.

Enter Brandon Jennings.

The Pistons' are also said to be ready to move on from Jennings, who is now almost fully recovered from his Achilles tear in January.

NJ Advance Media said that the 26-year-old, six-year veteran is set to "make his season debut this month" and most interested teams are reportedly going to "wait until Jennings plays a few games because of the nastiness of Achilles injuries" before they make a pitch.

The Knicks is expected to be one of several teams that will make an offer to Detroit for Jennings.

If everything goes well for the 2010 NBA All-Rookie First Teamer, then New York may suddenly become a legitimate force in the East this second half of the season as main man Carmelo Anthony continues to get back to his superstar stride while rookie phenom Kristaps Porzingis is surprisingly developing as a legitimate offensive force this early in his career.
