Major League Baseball's New York Mets and veteran pitcher Bartolo Colon reportedly  sealed a deal Wednesday on a one-year contract worth $7.25 million.

An article by theScore said the free-agent Colon had better offers from other teams, but because of his love for the fans, teammates and the franchise, the 42-year-old baseball pitcher opted to stay and play with the Mets.

Colon appeared in 33 games for the Mets in the last season, making 31 starts. While in New York, he offered a solid veteran presence to the team, registering a 14-13 record with a 4.16 ERA and WHIP.

According to Yahoo Sports, Bartolo knows the Mets well, and vice versa, making it a perfect marriage, so much so that Colon allegedly accepted less money to stay in New York, where he has pitched the previous two seasons of his 18-year career.

A spot became vacant in the Mets' rotation after the ballclub traded the left-hander Jon Niese to the Pittsburgh Pirates for second baseman Niel Walker.  Colon looks to fill in that spot.

Colon won his Cy Young award in 2005; he has 18 big-league seasons under his belt, earning 218 wins across nearly 3,000 innings of work. His win total comes as the third highest in history among Dominican-born pitchers, behind only Juan Marichal with 243 and Pedro Martinez with 219 wins. He was a three-time MLB All-Star.

His baseball resume includes pitching for the Cleveland Indians from 1997 to 2002, Montreal Expos in 2002, for Chicago White Sox in year 2003 and 2009.

Colon also played for the Los Angeles of Anaheim from 2004 to 2007, and for the Boston Red Sox in 2008. He spent a season in 2011 pitching for the New York Yankees, and stayed with Oakland Athletics from 2012 to 2013, and most recently with the New York Mets (2014-2015).
