Recent world football transfer rumors have emerged that two Premier League giants, Manchester United and Manchester City, are planning to pursue a £1 billion move for FC Barcelona's pair of top players Lionel Messi and Neymar next summer.

The Sun revealed the rumor saying that United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is keen on bringing Messi and Neymar to Old Trafford next season while his City rival, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, is said to be "working just hard" to bring the duo to the Etihad.

The report also said that "money is simply no object as both clubs attempt to rival Real Madrid's Galactico transfer policy".

Neymar, the Brazil captain, reportedly has a £165 million buyout clause and could demand a £500,000 weekly salary while Messi, a four-time Ballon d'Or awardee, is said to be worth £150 million and has a wage of £1 million per week, Caught Offside reports.

All in all, having both players in one team next season could cost a club more or less £1 billion including salaries for five years.

The two Manchester clubs' executives are allegedly "unblinking" with such massive numbers as "the new Premier League TV deals could be worth more than £9 billion over the next three seasons", which could land each team in the top four £660 million each "over the TV agreement's three-year time-frame".

Certainly, having Messi and Neymar in one team will make it an instant title contender and a top four finish is more likely a guarantee every season barring any unwanted injuries.

This will make the investment on both players more than worthwhile especially if the team would include potential sponsorship deals because of the two big names, the venue's actual ticket sales, and shirt sales.

At the moment, United earns £75 million a year from Adidas while City makes £50 million from Etihad Airlines annually as well.
