He will also help with amateur scouting leading up to the June draft, as well as some minor-league player evaluation and instruction.

43-year-old Jones retired from playing baseball after the MLB 2012 season. He has played all of his 19 year-career with the Atlanta Braves in the majors. The 1990 MLB Draft no. 1 pick was an eight-time All-Star, played in three straight years from 1996 to 1998, in years 2000, 2001, 2008, 2011 and 2012.

Chipper is also a former National League MVP, he ranks second in the Braves franchise history in games played, hits, doubles, RBIs, and OPS, and he is third in home runs. He won the 1999 and 2000 NL Silver Slugger award for third baseman and MLB Batting Champion in 2008.

In 2013, Jones was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame. His No. 10 is one of eleven numbers retired by the organization

As Special Assistant to Baseball Operations, Jones will be reporting to John Hart, Atlanta's president of baseball operations, and to General Manager John Coppolella.

"We are excited to bring Chipper on board as a special assistant," Coppolella said in article of AJC. "He brings a wealth of experience - from being a number one overall draft pick, to having a highly-successful career as a World Series champion, a league MVP and a batting champion, to coming back from major injuries. Chipper spent his entire Hall-of-Fame caliber career in a Braves uniform and we look forward to his input with our staff and with our hitters."
