The last quarter of the year is usually time for major releases from tech giants Apple, Samsung and Google. For this year, these new releases are the iPhone 6, Galaxy Note 4 and Nexus 6, respectively.

Google, however, hasn't given any clues about the launch of "Shamu," the codename for Nexus 6. Techies are now starting to speculate that Google's upcoming device might not be the Nexus 6 but an improved handset under the Android Silver program.

According to reports, the Nexus 6 or Motorola Shamu could be announced on Oct. 31, coinciding with Halloween. It's expected to be released several weeks after it debut.

Google vice president Sundar Pichai said at MWC 2014 (Mobile World Congress 2014) the mobile device will be launched in October but didn't give the exact date.

TK Tech News claims the Motorola Shamu could be Android Silver and not Google's upcoming next-gen flagship, the Nexus 6.

It verified the device's IMEI through Swappa, revealing the device is real but unlisted. It could then mean it's a Verizon device and this carrier isn't really too fond of Nexus.

On a GFXBench benchmark test, a 5.2-inch QHD Motorola phone with 24 GB internal storage, 2,649 Mhz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 2.9 GB of RAM was seen.

Meanwhile, Motorola Shamu reportedly has a 2K, 5.9-inch display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 and Adreno 420 GPU.

It's also said to sport a 13 MP rear shooter and a 2.1 MP front camera.

There is no reported fingerprint scanner and Apple and Samsung are expected to include this feature in their flagship devices. TK Tech is trying to confirm the Moto S label, suspecting it could be the first Android Silver device.

The Android Silver program was supposed to come after the Nexus series. Google works with different manufacturers in this project to bring an even more enhanced Android experience.
