After Asus produced the Nexus 7 units, rumors surfaced that Google partnered with HTC for the upcoming Nexus 8 project.

Speculation is the release will come soon with recently leaked information saying the Android L tablet has already been certified.

HTC is scheduled to have a major New York launch on Aug. 19. Analysts assume this will be for the new Windows smartphone.

Nexus 8, however, will have to wait for a Google launched in late 2014.

The upcoming Nexus tablet is called HTC T1, according to @UpLeaks.

It will feature a 64-bit Tegra processor chip and an MDM9X25 modem for the cellular or 3G model. The device is also said to have an 8 megapixel rear camera with flash, 1.6 megapixel front camera and a 4 GB of RAM for the base variant.

NCF and GOS connectivity are included in the features list Nexus fans should watch out for. Nexus 8 will supposedly have an 8.9-inch with 2560 x 1600 resolution display.

It will be wrapped in a full aluminum body, an improvement from the matte plastic cover of its predecessor.

The device certification happened in South Korea and G4Games said this new development confirmed two things. One is that HTC is building the stock Android tablet and the other is that its internal name is Flounder or Volantis.

The certification lacked details on killer specs and features but UpLeaks claimed the device will be a big rival for Apple's iPad Mini and iPad Air.

Android Authority said Google Nexus 8 will likely cost from US$300 to US$400 on its rumored release date of October or November 2014.

It could also be priced at around US$100 premium from its predecessor Nexus 7 (2013).
